Hours after chief minister Amarinder Singh held first Cabinet meeting with Punjab ministers on Thursday following the Lok Sabha elections, the CM rejigged the portfolios of most of the ministers.

Barring four ministers, there are some changes in the portfolios of all the state ministers. Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was the local bodies minister in Amarinder Singh's cabinet, got power and new & renewable energy sources.

The move comes after a rift between Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu further widened when Sidhu skipped the cabinet meeting held on Thursday. Later, he held a media address to say that he did not attend the meeting as he was the only minister who has been singled out in the Punjab government for the election loss. He asserted he could not be "taken for granted".

Earlier, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal also took potshots at Navjot Singh Sidhu. Sukhbir Singh Badal said that Navjot Singh Sidhu should be stripped of completely from all ministries.

According to sources, a group of Punjab cabinet ministers demanded Navjot Singh Sidhu's removal after the first cabinet meeting post elections.

Amarinder Singh had recently said he intended to change the cricketer-turned-politician's portfolio of local government department over the party's performance in the Lok Sabha polls.

Navjot Singh Sidhu had said the urban areas played pivotal role in the party's victory in Punjab and his department is being singled out.
