LUDHIANA: Various state-level functions will be held in Ludhiana on October 3 to mark the completion of 50 years of Punjabi Suba. The closing function will be held in Amritsar on October 31.
Taking stock of the arrangements, education minister Daljit Singh Cheema presided over a meeting at Guru Nanak Stadium on Friday. Cheema said the government is organizing a series of state-level functions
on the completion of 50 years of Punjabi Suba. On 3 October, the inaugural function will be held at Guru Nanak Stadium, where Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal will be the chief guest. The guest of honour will be deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, he said, adding that eminent personalities from across the world would also attend the function.
Cheema said these functions would be held throughout October across the state. According to him, 1,450 students will perform before an audience of more than 30,000 people. The event will feature presentations on Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat, he said.
Cheema said various competitions are being organised across the state, which will continue throughout the month. Prominent among those who attended the meeting included, ADC (general) Dr Rishipal Singh, DPI (secondary) Balbir Singh Dhol, DPI (elementary) Pankaj Sharma, additional commissioner, MC Amrit Kaur Gill, district transport officer Dalwinderjit Singh, ADCP Sukhpal Singh Brar, civil surgeon Renu Chhatwal, DEO (secondary) Paramjit Kaur Chahal, DEO (elementary) Gurjot Singh, among others.
