SAD warns Amarinder on evacuation issue; Cheema seeks apology for insult to Indian Army

handigarh, October 2, 2016
The Shiromani Akali Dal strongly reacted to the statement issued by PPCC Chief Capt. Amarinder Singh today on issue of evacuation of people within 10 kms radius of international border and said that his statement was aimed at creating mistrust between the Indian army and the people of the country in general and Punjab in particular.

In a statement released from the party head office here today, the SAD Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that in the larger interests of the country Capt. Amarinder Singh should immediately apologize and withdraw his statement. He said that  his statement is totally baseless, false and  devoid of merit and is aimed at playing petting politics over a highly sensitive issue of national security.

Dr. Cheema further said that as a  former officer of Indian army one expects that leaders like Capt Amarinder Singh will advise the people of the border state to cooperate with the Indian army as well as Border Security Force (BSF) and follow their directions. But it is unfortunate that  while understanding the gravity of the situation Capt Amarinder Singh has gone too low to create suspicion among the minds of people in the matter of directions given by Home Ministry of India. The SAD leader urged Capt Amarinder Singh to not to play politics on this national issue.

Dr Cheema said that it is ironical that one hand the national leadership of the Congress party has supported the action of the Indian army wholeheartedly but on the other side its state President is linking these developments with the elections of UP and Punjab. This is grave injustice and insult to the great achievement of the Indian army.

Reacting strongly to his statement that people of the border belt should not leave their houses as there is no troop movement on the Pakistan’s side, Dr Cheema urged the state Congress President to not to rely upon the information of his personal friends in Pakistan and rather he should have faith in the institution of democratic  India in totality.
