“Our probe is going on. His polygraph test is due in the court next month. We will then decide on his arrest,” said SSP (Vigilance), Amritsar, Varinder Singh Mann, who is investigating the case.
When approached, Inderbir Singh stated, "I have received no indication that I will be named in any case." The polygraph test is under investigation, and the court will make a decision. In court, I filed a lengthy response. I don't believe any proof exists against me. I've participated in the inquiry several times. I'm not going to say anything about the pending inquiry."
This is not Inderbir Singh's first arrest. He is now serving as DIG, Punjab Armed Police, Jalandhar Cantonment. At the time of the alleged occurrence, he was the DIG of Ferozepur.
On September 2, 2022, Inderbir Singh was also accused in a FIR for allegedly accepting a bribe in exchange for not incriminating an Assistant Sub-Inspector in a narcotics smuggling case. The DIG is a co-accused in both FIRs, along with suspended DSP Lakhbir Singh, who spent nearly three months in jail in these instances before being freed on bail.
Lakhbir Singh told the court during his bail application that the DIG had not joined the probe.
"Lakhbir Singh was imprisoned for three months. "His bail order has nothing to do with the investigation of DIG Inderbir Singh," SSP Mann explained. On June 5, this year, Inderbir Singh's name was added to a case that dated back to June 30, 2022, when an accused drug seller called Pishora Singh was caught outside a fuel station in Tarn Taran. Pishora Singh was reportedly found with 250 grammes of opium and Rs 1 lakh.
