Dengue cases continue to pour in From Chandigarh and Around

As many as 39 new cases of dengue were reported from the tricity and the surrounding areas today, taking the total number to 739. Fourteen new confirmed cases were reported from the city, 15 from Panchkula and 10 from Mohali district.

According to officials of the UT Health Department, most of the cases of dengue were being reported from Sectors 15, 41, 42 and 45, Mani Majra, Maloya and Mauli Jagran. Thirty dengue patients are admitted to the PGI.

No fresh case of chikungunya was reported in any of the health institutions today, the officials said.
However, the testing facility for chikungunya had been started at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, and would soon be started at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, said the health officials.


According to the officials, preventive steps against dengue have been further strengthened in the city. Fumigation is being carried out daily along with strengthening of field activities such as creating mass awareness, checking of breeding sources like coolers, containers, tyres and other sources.
The Health Department has issued 30 challans, 50 show-cause notices and 2,268 notices to defaulters.
Meanwhile, the department has asked residents not to panic during fever and take only paracetamol till they are examined by doctors.

The investigation, if any, should only be undertaken on the doctor’s advice and self-medication should be avoided.

Other measures taken by GMSH-16 The strength of medical/paramedical staff has been increased to cope with the workload; planned surgeries will remain postponed till the situation eases out; adequate quantity of medicines/consumables/IV fluids are available for the management of fever cases; services are available 24X7 for all patients, including fever cases; only patients suspected to be suffering from dengue/chikungunia will be subjected  to specialised investigation.
