Punjab Announces Significant Pay Increases for Thousands of Teachers Following Regularisation

According to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, these teachers would be eligible to a 5% pay increase each year.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Tuesday that the pay of 12,700 recently regularised teachers had been boosted by up to three times.

In a statement here, Mr Mann said these instructors will be recognized as associate teachers and special inclusive teachers, adding that they will be controlled by a 'Policy for Welfare of Adhoc, Contractual, Temporary instructors (Nation Builders) and other staff in the School Education Department'.

Their emoluments have been determined up to the completion of 58 years in service based on their educational credentials and primary entry requirements.

Mr Mann stated that these instructors will be eligible to a 5% salary increase each year.

The chief minister stated that BA pass education providers (associate teachers) who were previously paid 9,500 per month will now be paid 20,500, while such teachers with ETT (elementary trained teachers) and NTT (nursery teacher training) qualifications will be paid 22,000, up from the current salary of 10,250.Similarly, instructors with BA, MA, and B.Ed degrees who now receive a salary of 11,000 will now receive a compensation of 23,500. Mr Mann stated that inclusive education volunteers will now be paid 15,000 instead of 5,500.

Education volunteers who were previously paid $3,500 will now be paid $15,000, according to CM Mann, who also stated that instructors under the EGS (employment guarantee scheme) and the AIE (alternative and innovative education) who were previously paid $6,000 would now be paid $18,000.

This is a watershed moment for the state government, he says, since it will assure the overall development of these instructors.

He noted that these instructors had served in the education department for more than ten years before the state administration decided to regularise their jobs, but previous governments had only given lip service to the problem.
